Crime Alert

Crime Alert: We got word that a vacant house on Dundee was stripped of metal including the carport and even the siding! Thieves have been stealing copper and such from AC units and now apparently they're after all kinds of scrap metal to sell. Let's keep an eye open for suspicious activity, especially around the vacant houses in our community. You can report a crime online here or call 630-0500. And always call 911 if you or anyone else is in immediate danger.

  1. I met with Officer Shell today at the property on Dundee Road and since Code Enforcement came out Thursday and boarded broken windows, another window has been kicked in to gain access to the vacant house. It is very important that you report suspicious people to the Police at these vacant properties. Officer Shell is going to request more patrol in this area and ask Code Enforcement to come back and board up all windows.

  2. During the night on November 4, the workshop/garage of a house in the 2900 blk of Lake Shore Blvd was broken into by unknown suspects using pry bars that were taken from a truck parked in the neighbor's yard next door. All of their high end lawn equipment was stolen from the garage. A reward is offered for the return of the equipment.

  3. What is it with people wanting to take things that aren't theirs? Whether it be outright stealing, or running up credit card bills buying stuff we can't afford. I have no respect for people like that, do you?

  4. It is indeed a terrible thing that this home, or any home, has suffered a theft. That is why this blog is important; it alerts people who live in OUR neighborhood to events in OUR neighborhood. On your other comment regarding credit card debt which seems off point, some people get themselves into situations with debt as you stated that gets out of control. We do not know how they got into this situation. The people I have no respect for are the "Christians" who are the first to condemn ALL debtors without knowing the circumstances. Don't you think these people are suffering as well with the situation they have gotten themselves into? Anyone who can attend church every time they throw the doors open and sit up front, so as to be closer to God, should have a greater acceptance for human foiables. Human beings screw up. I have yet to meet a single person who is PERFECT and who has not gotten themselves into a situation that they don't regret. This blog is not meant to condemn our neighbors for their lack of affluence or for their perceived misdeeds. I have to say, one of the greatest traits of the Lake Shore residents is they have an understanding of hardships. We are just working folk, like the Clampets, who are trying to get through this life and live peacefully without the drama that is associated with other neighborhoods.

  5. OUR neighborhood has plenty of churches, and plenty of Christians. Let's hope we aren't judging people for going to church (even if they sit in the front row every time the doors swing open), or getting into debt. That's God's job! The 10 Commandments are similar to the moral code of most other religions. No matter what your religious beliefs (or lack of), stealing is wrong, and we should all watch out for each other.

  8. No 10 Commandments!?! Does that mean it's o.k. to lie cheat and steal if you don't mind someone doing it to you? Can I covet my neighbor's wife, too. I'd love to because she's hot and mine's not!
